As one of the top 3 divorce Lawyers in Aurora, Stephen Calder knows how hard divorce can be, but the process of getting one doesn't have to be

A woman and man apart with melancholic looks on their faces

Calder Family Law’s philosophy is different from other divorce lawyers in Aurora

We’re different from most other Divorce Lawyers in that we’d rather see you put this difficult time behind you without it costing you an arm and a leg even though it means we don’t make as much. We do that by offering alternatives to the old-fashioned bitter divorce of yesteryear to qualifying couples.

But if an amicable divorce is just not in the cards for you, we’ve got you covered for that too.  Learn more.

Why would a divorce lawyer encourage couples facing the end of their marriage to investigate a "no-conflict" divorce?

Unlike most divorce lawyers in Aurora, we encourage couples to consider amicable alternatives to getting a divorce such as a “No-Conflict divorce” [also known as an “uncontested divorce”].  That’s when the parties are willing, and able, to cooperate in the divorce process enough to come up with their own plan for dividing things up in order to save time, money, and emotional energy and also to retain full control over the outcome.

Typically, people have three options when it comes to getting a divorce:

  1. Each party hires their own divorce lawyer to represent them in a traditional contested divorce often involving prolonged and expensive litigation.
  2. DIY – filling out and filing all the forms themselves (there are over a dozen, more if you have children, together with pages of confusing and often conflicting instructions).  This option is not very practical unless the parties are cooperating and agree on everything.
  3. Utilize the expertise of someone like Aurora divorce lawyer Stephen Calder to draft and file your papers for you using terms you and your spouse agree upon.

"CONTESTED DIVORCE" - As a veteran divorce lawyer in Aurora, Stephen Calder has helped countless individuals whose circumstances are simply not conducive to a "no-conflict" divorce.

Not everyone can cooperate to the degree necessary to pull off a ‘no-conflict’ or ‘uncontested’ divorce. For those individuals Stephen Calder has, over the course of his more than 40 years as a domestic litigator, developed a reputation as a caring but firm advocate for his clients. Although it is often difficult to identify a clear winner or loser in matters of Family Law, standing out among Aurora divorce lawyers, he has helped generations of clients achieve exceptional results. Mr. Calder’s reputation for taking cases to trial when necessary, often leads to settlement – a strategy of ‘peace through strength’.   Mr. Calder would be happy to discuss your case with you for free.  Just call 303-883-9346.

"UNCONTESTED" or "NO-CONFLICT" DIVORCE - For people who qualify, here's a look at a 'kinder' - 'gentler' way to divorce...

First, to qualify you must both want to do this amicably; and you must be willing to do the ‘hard part’ which is to come to an understanding on everything. We can give you a ‘laundry list’ of those things if need be. If so, we will take care of the morass of paperwork for you – all you need to do is simply complete and submit our easy and convenient online questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to tell us what we need in order to draft your divorce documents. Your information is “ssl” secure and encrypted for your security. We will review your questionnaire and let you know if we have questions or need any additional information.

Mr. Calder then prepares your custom paperwork, personally, we don’t use law students or paralegals. We do only Colorado cases so we are familiar with the turf, unlike the document services who operate in all 50 states.

Your completed paperwork will be emailed to you usually within one or two business days along with easy to follow instructions for signing. At this stage in the process the document services wish you “luck” and hand you a stack of papers and confusing filing instructions. Not us.

If you opt for us to file your papers with the court for you, once you and your spouse have signed the documents and completed the brief financial form required by the court, we have you mail them back to us and we review them, making sure they are all properly signed and accounted for, then WE send them to the appropriate court for filingNO ONE ELSE DOES THAT.

That sounds simple but it’s not. Lots of missteps are possible when filing a divorce with the court that can result in rejection or delay. If you opt to have us file for you, you won’t have to worry about any of that.  If you prefer to file yourself, we’ll give you specific instructions on how to do so.   Either way your final divorce decree will be issued by the court in about 91 days. It’s that simple.
